New Year's resolution? Nah. Make a New Decade resolution!

Did you make a New Year's resolution this year? Get into bodybuilder shape, reach your ideal weight, meet "the one": these are all familiar goals that people declare on December 31st. The problem is, with large, hard-to-reach goals like those listed above, you may find yourself at a loss for how to make them happen. Without enough time and a practical plan, you end up breaking your resolution every year.

Why not consider a broader timeframe with a new decade resolution, and dig more deeply into discovering goals you can set that will boost your quality of life? Being thin does not guarantee you will live longer or be happier. Think of specific ways to live a healthier lifestyle, rather than trying to get down to your college weight.

Living a long, quality life is accomplished by working toward good physical health through proper nutrition and exercise, and good mental health, achieved through managing stress and doing the things that fulfill you, like spending time with family and friends.

10 years are better than 1

A new decade resolution example might be to only put food in your body that provides nourishment. Start out 2020 resolving to eat mostly whole foods, and reduce the amount of processed items you consume. "Eating food that is as close as possible to the way nature made it can make a huge difference to the way you think, look and feel." [1]

Remember, you have ten years to make the shift so don't feel pressure to get there overnight, but every little bit counts toward improving your overall health. In addition, pay attention to nutrients that are difficult to get through diet alone, such as vitamin D3, and consider supplements to make sure you meet the RDA.

Moving your body more is another excellent resolution. This doesn't mean that you need to suddenly resolve to run five miles a day or spend an hour in the gym. Build more activity into your everyday life by taking the stairs, parking further away and playing with the dog. "A study from the University of Utah shows that all those little bits and pieces of exercise you do throughout the day can add up to something big." [2]

You don't have to wait until 2030

The beauty of a 10-year plan is that you can take your time, and even if you have a bad month or two, there's always time to get back on track. And the healthy eating goals you put in place to improve your physical health can also help improve mental health. A study at Stanford University set out to determine how the body impacted the brain. "The evidence led researchers to note that the condition of a person's stomach can directly affect the mind."[3] Maintaining healthy digestion is a key factor to overall well-being; ThreeLac probiotic can help.

Start a new decade resolution anytime, and work toward a better quality, longer life.
